Find Your Champions

Alma is a community of capital allocators backing women (co)founders building tech or IP-rich ventures, with ambitions to scale globally.

Becoming an Alma Founder

Our community backs early-stage ventures - typically pre-seed, seed, or Series A - with strong potential to scale. We’re excited about both products and services that are tech-driven or built differently, with meaningful intellectual property.

We welcome mixed founding teams. As long as at least one founder with double-digit ownership identifies as a woman, your company aligns with our mission to create more equitable access to capital.

We are a community of funders, some are very experienced, some are newer to investing in startups. All bound by the passion and commitment to back women. Alma Angels often invest individually direct on the cap table if they meet your minimum ticket requirement. Alma does not charge for capital deployed.

Founder Stories

Alma Angels Founders

Meet Jas and Jo

“Alma Angels believed in our mission with the same conviction we did. Their support has given us the confidence and community to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing young girls today” Jas

  • One is the daughter of immigrant parents, the other of a Northern farmer. Both went to state schools, both first-generation university graduates. And when it comes to entrepreneurship, some say the odds are stacked against them. They are wrong.

We met them in 2022 right before they launched luna: revolutionising how teens and their parents navigate the complexities of adolescence, through a digital health and wellbeing companion. It is tackling a huge problem for millions of teens who are accessing misinformation on social media. luna’s growth has been incredible to witness as they reached 150k members shortly after Alma’s official backing.

Alma Angels Founders

Meet Sarah & Varun

“Fashion has always inspired me, but I could no longer ignore its impact on people and the planet. Almas’ backing in 2024 has been instrumental. It gave us not just capital, but a community that believes in a fairer, more sustainable future” – Sarah

  • From banana tree waste in India to next-generation textiles: 29acacia transforms agricultural by-products into high-performance, low-impact fabrics.

Their material offers a scalable and sustainable alternative to cotton and viscose, with a carbon footprint 90% lower, using one-hundredth of the water, and requiring no extra land or insecticides.

Beyond sustainability, their model is rooted in fairness. By sourcing ethically and working directly with farming communities, 29acacia aims to lift 100,000 farmers out of poverty within five years.

Alma Summit 2025

Meet Unravel Health

“The backing of Alma Angels has been transformative for us. They’ve opened doors, shared wisdom, and stood beside us as we work to change women’s health for the better” Liza

  • Unravel Health was founded to bring women real-time insights they need to reclaim their health journey.

Dr. Alexandra Oti, Veronika Bridgman and Liza Levy built Unravel Health so that suffering is no longer “just part of being a woman”. It’s been a priviledge to see them grow from ideation to prototype, and now onto their commercialisation path.

Since 2020, Alma Angels have backed more than 250 women-founded start-ups

Ready to apply? A few things to keep in mind

We recommend reaching out directly to different Alma Angels to get their interest, you can find many of them on our LinkedIn. The Alma community receives tens of decks a week and it's sometimes difficult to raise above the deal flow so make sure you are ready to fundraise before applying.

  • We are a community of funders, some are very experienced, some are newer to investing in startups. All bound by the passion and commitment to put more capital in the hands of women. We encourage Almas to invest direct on the cap table if they meet your minimum ticket requirement. If there is a lot of interest, we can look to create a SPV or we can join an existing SPV founder-led or led by another syndicate. We have no conflict of interest when collaborating with syndicates since Alma does not charge for capital deployed.

  • The Alma team is a not a gatekeeper. Part of Alma's mission is to break the "Access to Capital" barrier, so we share the information you send with all the community and leave it to each individual to connect if they find it interesting. If we see that there is a lot of interest, we will group together to do due diligence to save time for the founders and the angels.

  • We do our best to make sure everyone is aware of all the materials you send over and give you the best chance, but we cannot guarantee an Alma will reach out. Each individual angel decides what they want to do due diligence on. If you do not hear back, it’s not necessarily that the business is not of interest but it is sometimes a matter of timing. We receive tens of decks a week, you need to raise above it.

  • Each Alma makes their own decision and invests according to their individual circumstances so individual ticket size varies from £2k to ... (biggest cheque we know of was £400k). We may group together in a SPV if there is a lot of interest, but we encourage angels to invest direct on the cap table when they meet your minimum ticket requirement.

  • There are some very experienced and strategic operators as well as fund managers in the community. All Almas are trained and pledge to be value-add angels.
